Will you take up the challenge? As Madiba spent most of his "free" time in prison studying to prepare himself for giving US freedom, I challenge you to take 67 hours of your "free" time to study (read a good book, watch culture programmes that you wouldn’t normally watch, study the bible, meditating, following a conference / course on Bible, spirituality, etc). Please keep a record of when you’re doing it and what you’re doing. Deadline for the challenge: 30th November 2010.
n.b.: Father Philippe has taken the challenge and has completed nine hours this week.
Received this week in my mailbox. An occasion to exercise our priestly vocation.
Mark lost his nine year old son, Will, in a drowning accident. Fortunately, Mark and Will accepted Jesus as their Savior, and Mark has no problems with knowing that Will is in heaven. However, Mark’s wife, (Will’s mother) Freda, is having difficulty understanding Jesus and the concept of eternity. I told Mark I would gladly share this and have the prayer warriors pray for Freda to accept Jesus, and Mark agreed that he wished to have other’s praying with him. Thank you.
INTER-DIOCESAN CONSULTATION 2010
This weekend, we are distributing the leaflet explaining the background to the previous Pastoral Plan for the South African Catholic Region as well as his implementation, together with a short analysis of the current situation calling for a new Pastoral Plan. Attached to the leaflet, you will find a questionnaire to be filled by every Catholic after having read and pondered on the content of the leaflet. If you are a member of the PPC, or a member of a small regular Prayer Group, please obtain a special questionnaire from Father. We need the questionnaires back next weekend. Please bring it along when you come to mass.
As paper is expensive and a threat for our planet, we urge you to please only take a leaflet if you commit yourself to read it and to answer the survey.
“Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour? Keep watch and pray , all of you, so that you may not slip into temptation. The spirit indeed is eager but human nature is weak.” (Mark 14:37b-38)
Please do remember the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday at 7.30pm, except for the first Friday.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE
To all whose marriage will be (has been) celebrated between 1st July 2010 and 30th June 2011 : You are invited to register for the marriage course that will run for 6 weeks from Tuesday 6th August. Forms are available from the website or from the office.
All our teenagers (Catechism - Level D) are currently following a “Life in the Spirit” seminar. Normally organised over 7 weeks, the seminar is run by Glenda and Nick Tenner and their team over a weekend for the youth. Glenda and Nick, who do that as a special ministry, have also organised a LISS for priests last year. The seminar aims at reviving the faith of the participants, especially helping them to open up to the action of the Holy Spirit. Each presentation is followed by a testimony given by a peer. The presentations are on “God’s love”, “Salvation”, “New life”, “Receiving God’s gift”, “Praying for baptism in the Spirit”, “Growth”, “Transformation in Christ”.
Please, let us pray that each one of them be touched by the Holy Spirit. Let us also pray for ourselves, that the same Spirit may challenge us, parents and adults in the faith, to give a sound testimony to our children.
